Who We Are

Image
Use Your Freedom is an international movement leveraging non-violent digital activism to spotlight the unlawful imprisonment of Myanmar's democratically elected leaders.
Use Your Freedom has been created under the direction of The Burma Project International/USA, founded in 1988 and dedicated to producing high-quality independent media content such as books, films, photography, albums, and impactful campaigns. We strive to illuminate the beauty of freedom, especially the freedoms of speech and expression, as essential safeguards against tyranny, dictatorship, violence, and war.
The Burma Project International/USA is a registered not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization under the umbrella of the Buddha Sasana Foundation (BSF) and has been committed since its establishment to upholding the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Our primary focus is serving the people of Burma while advocating on a global scale for the release of political prisoners and raising awareness about their plight.

Alan Clements, President and Board Director, has drawn the world’s attention to the humanitarian crisis in Burma through numerous books, stage shows and campaigns, as well as TV, radio, podcast and newspaper interviews and appearances, for over 40 years. Equally significant to its crisis is Burma’s historic “revolution of the spirit”, epitomised by the resilience, courage and dignity of its people. Championing democracy through non-violent action, civil disobedience and political engagement, Aung San Suu Kyi and her political party, the National League for Democracy, have served as figureheads for this revolution since the country-wide uprising of 1988.
Our mission is clear: to secure the immediate release of democratically elected leaders in Burma, including State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint, and all other political prisoners. We aim to foster respect for universal human rights, promote the rule of law, and advocate for peace across all ethnicities and regions in Myanmar. Given the dire situation in Myanmar following the military coup, our campaign aims to raise international awareness among freedom-loving nations to unite in solidarity, calling for the immediate release of Burma's elected leaders and all prisoners of conscience held within the country's extensive network of gulags.
We are deeply committed to safeguarding human rights and fundamental freedoms while addressing the needs of the 2.5 million displaced and refugee populations within Myanmar. The Board and Officers of the Foundation stand united in this mission and warmly invite you to join us in solidarity, lending your voice to the cause of freedom.
